Reviewing Act 2 (scenes 1 -6)

1) Looking back at our work with Act 2 (including class discussions, activities, and homework), what do you think is important to know AND understand about Act 2? Think about not only plot, but also characters, themes, tone, and what we've done with figurative language.

2) Submit THREE (3) questions that you think would be important to ask on an Act 2 Quiz. When writing these questions, think about why they are important and what understanding their answers would show.

3) Remember to complete your creative writing assignment. It's due on MONDAY!

* The Act 2 Quiz will be on Tuesday. Please let me know (e-mail me) if you will not be in class on Tuesday.

1. Why does the nurse help Romeo to marry Juliet?
2. Why do Romeo and Juliet have to get married in Friar Lawrence’s cell? Why not the church?
3. Why didn’t Romeo invite Benvoilo, his cousin and best friend to his wedding?

1. I think it is important to know a few things about act 2. Firstly, that Romeo and Juliet are in love and they don’t care about their names. Secondly, that they are going to be married, and thirdly that their love should end the two families feuds.
2. a) Why do Mercutio and Benvolio get angry with Romeo?
b) What is Juliet’s view on their names?
c) Who does Romeo talk to before Juliet?

The entire act is important to the plot because Romeo and juliet really kick off their relationship, by getting married. We learn a bit about Mercutio and his perspective/ ideas on relationships and that gives us a preview of what he might think of Romeo's relationship with Juliet. Also from this act we get an idea of how Romeo and Juliet feel for each other. Love and innocence are definetly themes in this. love because of Romeo and Juliet's relationship and innocence because we see these two young people getting married for what will be the rest of their lives. We also see an older person's perspective on love so we get a sense of the difference in perspective between the two groups of people.
1. Why do you think people fall in love? Why do you think Romeo and Juliet fell in love?
2. What do you think would happen if Romeo and Juliet took place in 2006? How would society treat them if they got married? How would their peers treat them?
3. How do you thik romeo feels about getting married? How about Juliet? Pretend you are either Romeo or Juliet(this takes place in modern day), how would you feel about getting married? How would you feel about being in love? What would you be afraid of? What would you be looking forward to? Would you go through with the wedding? Why or why not?

1) I very importent thing is when Romeo and Juliet expresses their love to each other in scene 2.
Then when the nurse is holding back what Romeo says, and you see Juliet who really want to know. The theme is slitly getting darker.
2)
What do Friar Lawrence think about Romeo and Juliets marriage palns?
What is noticeable about the conversation between Juliet and the nurse?
What do you know about Mercrutio and his personality?

1.In act 2 there are a couple of important things worth looking back at to further understand it. One of these things is how important names are. In the Romeo and Juliet names are very important and it is important to know if they still are today. Another thing that is important is to understand the tone of the book. In act 2 the tone seems to change constantly so it is worth looking over what tone is and some examples of tone. Lastly firgurative speech is another important thing we should go over because there are a lot of hidden similies and metaphors in the text that we usually read past without noticing them.
2.
a. What is Friar Lawrence afraid of when he is about to marry Romeo and Juliet?
b. What does Romeo think marrying Juliet will end?
C. Where are Romeo and Juliet going to get married?

For act 2, I think that students should know and understand each character's viewpoint of the current situation. Not just their viewpoint, but their reactions to what's happened so far, and what the characters think should happen. (In other words, what they want their perfect future to be)
ACT 2 QUIZ QUESTIONS:
1) If you were the Nurse, would you agree with Friar Lawrence about Romeo and Juliet's fast romance, and advise them to take it slowly, Or would you respond more like the giddy Juliet and encourage the excitement? Why?
2) Why does Friar Lawrence think that this rapid relationship between Romeo and Juliet is not a good idea? How is what he says about it foreshadowing other parts of the story?
3) What is Romeo's reaction towards what Friar Lawrence says upon hearing about the "star-crossed" romance? Do you think that Romeo is not smart for doing that, or that it's not really his fault given his current situation?
