Holden’s siblings are D.B., Phoebe, and allie. For Phoebe Holden describes her by saying “She was somebody you always felt like talking to on the phone.”. for D.B. and allie Holden describes him by saying “My brother D.B. is the writer and all, and my brother Allie, the one that died, that I told you about, was a wizard.”. He says that he is the stupid one of the four.
Holden's three siblings are his sister, Phoebe, his brother Allie, and his oldest brother D.B. Phoebe:"I mean you can even take her anywhere with you." p.67. Allie " My brother Allie had this left-handed fielder's mitt. He was left-handed." p.38. D.B.: "Ernie's is this night club in Greenwich Village that my brother D.B. used to go to quite frequently before he went out to Hollywood and prostituted himself." p.80. holden compares himself to his siblings as the only really dumb one of the three.
Holdens siblings are named Allie, D.B., and his sister Phoebe. Allie is "two years younger and fifty times smarter." Phoebe is "the kind of person you can shoot the breeze with for hours, and D.B. is "a writer and all." Holden said that they are all alot smarter than him. "I'm the only dumb one in the family." (p 67)
Holden's siblings are Allie,DB, and Phoebe. He describes Allie as a smart, kind child who died of leukemia. He describes DB as a prostitute who lives in Hollywood, who he really wasn't close with. He describes Phoebe as a talkative, bubbly kid who gets along with everyone. Holden doesn't really compare himself to anyone, he says that they all are very different than him.
a) Holdens siblings are Phoebe, Allie, "He was two years younger than I was, but he was about fifty times as intelligent." Lastly, Phoebe, Holden thinks, is mature for her age, "She was smart even when she was a very tiny little kid."
c) Holden thinks he is dumber than his siblings. he says that his brother made it big, his brother was a "wizard" and his sister Pheobe was very smart for her age and that he was the only one who flunked out of schools.
Holdens siblings are DB, Allie, and Pheobe. Holden describes Pheobe as pretty and smart. He says " you should see her. You never saw a little kid so pretty and smart in your whole life(P. 67)." Holden explains Allie as very smart. He says " My brother Allie, the one that died, was a wizard(P. 67)." When Holden is describing DB he says "Now he's out in hollywood, DB, being a prostitute. If theres one thing i hate, it's the movies(P. 2)." Holden says he's dumb compared to all of his siblings. He says "I'm the only realy dumb one (P. 67)".
a) Holden has three siblings. Their names are Phoebe, DB, and Allie.
b) A quote that describes Phoebe is "You never saw a kid pretty and smart in your whole life. She's really smart. I mean, she's had all A's ever since she started school. As a matter of fact, I'm the only dumb one in my family. My brother DB is a writer and all, and my brother Allie, the one that died, that I told you about, was a wizard." The Catcher and the Rye, pg. 67) A quote that describes Allie is " He was about two years younger than me and about fifty times intelligent. He was terrifically intelligent. His teachers were always writing letters to my mother, telling her what a pleasure it was to have Allie in their class. And they wern't just shooting the crap. They really meant it. But it wasn't just that he was the most intelligent member of our family. He was also the nicest, in lots of ways. He never got mad at anybody. People with red hair are supposed to get mad very easily, but Allie never did, and he had very red hair." (The Catcher and the Rye, pg. 38) A quote that describes DB is, " He just got a Jaguar. One of those English jobs that can do around two hundred miles an hour. It cost him a damn near four thousand bucks. He's got a lot of dough now."
(The Catcher and the Rye, pg 1)
c) Holden compares himself, it seems, in a negative way to his brothers and sister. He said that DB has a lot of dough, and it sounds like Holden and DB don't get along that well, and Holden is saying that he sort of has the raw deal. DB is living in Hollywood, with a ton of money, and Holden is going to a Prep school that he doesn't particuarlly like. Holden says that he is dumber than his siblings, his sister Phoebe getting strait A's ever since she started school. Holden compares himself to Allie, because all of Allie's teachers have called his parents to tell them what a great student Allie was, and Holden feels like he doesn't have anything all that special. His brother DB wrote a book, his sister gets straight A's, and all of the teachers like Allie. Maybe one reason why Holden is why he is, is because he doesn't feel like he has any special characteristic to share.
Holden has three siblings, Phoebe, DB, and Allie. On page 49, he says that Allie was intelligent “he was terrifically intelligent.” On page 25, he says that his brother D.B. is his favorite author, “My favorite author is my brother D.B.,” On page 88 Holden tells us about his sister Phoebe. He says she is “She’s very emotional, for a child”. Holden says that he is the only dumb one out of his siblings and that all of them are and were very smart.
a) Allie, D.B., and Phoebe.
b) "Allie was a wizard"
"My brother D.B. is a writer now"
"Phoebe will always know exactly what you are talking about"
NOTE: I read the chapters and left my book at school, not realizing I might need to quote. I had to recall the quotes, so they might not be 100% accurate. Oops! *looks embarrassed*
c) Holden says he is the only dumb one in the family.
Also, I figured out the html tags.
a) His siblings are Phoebe,Allie and D.B.
b)Phoebe: "she's very emotional, for a child." page 68.
Allie:"He was two years younger than I and was about fifty times more intelegent." page 38.
D.B.: "He used to be a regular writer." page 1.
He compairs himself as stupid compaired to the rest of his family.
Holden Has three siblings, Pheobe, Allie and D.B.
Holden finds D.B. to be a little stuck up, he works in Hollywood and Holden dislikes the movies. Holden really doesnt say much about him other then how is a "great writer", he used to take him and pheobe around
Allie is Holdens brother who died of lukimia, he says that Allie was much smarter then him, and had a very close relashonship with him.
Pheobe is Holdens sister, he has a very close relashonship with her and thinks she is very smart to. He describes her as a very cute personality, that she would "kill you" with her smile or dress or somthing like that.
Holdens sibling are Allie, Pheobe, and D.B. Allie died a long time ago. Pheobe is ten years old. And D.B. is a writter. Allie has very read hair. "I turned around all of a sudden, I'd see allie. So I did and sure enough there he was sitting on his bike outside the fence- there was this fence that went all around the course- and he was sitting there wabout one hundred and fifty yards behind me, watching me tee off. Thats what kind of red hair he had." page 38. He says that Pheobe is really smart "You never saw a little kid so pretty and smart in your whole life. Shes really smart. I mean shes had all A's ever since she started school." page 67. Holden says that D.B. is a prostitute. "Ernie's is this night club in Greenwich VIllage that my brother D.B. used to go to quite frequently before he went out to HOllywood and prostituted himself." page 80. Holden says that everyone in his family is a lot smarter than him. D.B. is a writer, Pheobe gets all A's and Allie was a genious
a) His siblings are D.B, Allie, and Phoebe.
b) “My brother D.B’s a writer and all, and my brother Allie, the one that died, that I told you about, was a wizard. I’m the only really dumb one. But you ought to see old Phoebe. She has this sort of red hair, a little bit like Allie’s was, that’s very short in the summertime.” I found this quote on page 88.
c) Holden seems to think that they are all better than him and he is the dumbest one in the family.
a) Phoebe, D.B. and Allie.
b) Phoebe: "You never saw a little kid so pretty and smart in your whole life"
DB: "My brother D.B.'s a writer and all"
Allie: "He was two years younger than I was, but he was about fifty times as intelligent"
c) Like that they're smarter than him.
"My brother D.B.'s a writer and all, and my brother Allie, the one that died, that I told you about, was a wizard. I'm the only really dumb one"
Holden had three siblings: D.B.,Allie, and Pheobe. Now he has two siblings, because allie died of leukemia.Holde, at this point goes into a lot of detail focusing on Pheobe. He thinks she is incredibly smart for a 10 year old. Allie, as described earlier, died of leukemia. D.B. is "a writer and all" meaning he is probably successful and smart, too. Holden calls himself the dumbest of his entire family-actually, the only dumb person in his family. He doesn't really mention how he feels about it, which is interesting, but he seems to have great things to say about his family.
Holden's siblings are D.B., Allie, and Phoebe Caulfield. Holden says D.B. is a great writer, that has a lot of "dough". "He wrote this terrific book of short stories, "The Secret Goldfish", in case you never heard of him." (Catcher in the Rye) Holden explains Allie as really, with lots of bright red hair that you could see from miles away. Holde really stresses that he was REALLY close to him. "You'd have liked him. He was two years younger than I was,but he was about fifty times as intelligent." (Catcher in the Rye). Holden says Phoebe is very proper, that she can listen to people."I certainly felt like talking to her on the phone. Somebody with sense and all." (Catcher in the Rye) Phoebe was someone that wasn't a phony to Holden.
Holden compares himself as not nearly as smart, not nearly as nice. He has very low morale on this subject, and doesn't let up. As he talks about all the things he himself has done wrong, he talks about the good things others have done.
Holden's three siblings are Allie D.B. and Phoebe.
"You should see her. You never saw a little kid so pretty and smart in your whole life." p. 87. Holden loves Phoebe.
D.B. is his older brother. Holden says that "My favorite author is my brother D.B." (p. 24) D.B. lives in Hollywood and drives a jaguar. Holden isn't happy with him now "D.B. being a prostitute. If there's one thing I hate, It's the movies." (p. 4)
His brother Allie was younger by two years. "He was about fifty times as intelligent" p. 49 (as Holden) and he died of leukemia in Maine in 1946. He was lefthanded and had a fielders mitt that was covered in poems he'd written in green ink.
Holden seems like he thinks he is the loser in the family. He likes Phoebe the best and thinks there is no kid better. He believes Allie was smarter than he was.
He thinks D.B. was a great author but is mad at him for going to Hollywood to write movies. But he still likes D.B. and is glad that he's going to drive him home.
Holden’s family from his point of view has its ups and its downs. They also have some things in common with each other. First Holden has his brother’s Allie and D.B. Then has his sister Phoebe. Lastly there is Holden’s mother. Holden points out that his brother Allie and his sister Phoebe both have red hair and are very intelligent for their age. But, he also points out that his brother died of leukemia and his sister is perhaps too emotional. We know is that he is a writer in Hollywood and comes to visit Holden as much as possible. We also know that his brother and his sister are both writers. It seems that Holden’s mother does not fully understand him. I think that when he gets the ice skates that his mother sends him and they are not the right ones, that this represents them not understanding Holden very well. Holden also claims that his mother hates him and that’s why he was sent to boarding school in the first place. Holden compares his siblings to him almost as if they are better than he but he still loves them all very much in the same way. He compares his parents to him in a bad way. He puts his mother down below him. Like she is less than him because she doesn’t understand him and "does not like him”.
Holden's siblings are Allie, D.B., and Pheobe. Ten-year-old Pheobe seems like a good friend to Holden, understanding, in his same zone, and on his same level. Holden sees Pheobe as a smart and pretty girl, and sees Allie and D.B. as smart too. Pheobe's gotten practically all A's, Allie's a "Wizard," and D.B.'s a writer. Holden says that all of his siblings are smart, and he's the only "dumb one." He needs a good friend to be with him at this point to reassure him and tell him that he can be or already is just as good as his siblings. He needs S-U-P-P-O-R-T-!
Holden siblings are Allie, Phoebe, and D.B.. Holden adores his sister you can tell when he says, "you never saw a little kid so pretty and smart in your whole life. She's really smart"(The Catcher in the Rye p.87-88). Holden’s feeling toward D.B. are all over. He was proud of him for writing then ashamed of him for becoming a "prostitute." I do believe that the pride he takes in his brother is stronger though because he says DB is his favorite author. You get a better sense of how his feelings changed when he said , “he’s got a lot of dough now. He didn’t use to. He used to be just a regular writer, when he was home. He wrote this terrific book of short stories, The Secret Goldfish, in case you never heard of him. The best one in it was “The Secret Goldfish.” It was about this little kid who wouldn’t let anybody look at his goldfish because he bought it with his own money. It killed me. Now he’s out in Hollywood, D.B., being a prostitute”(The Catcher in the Rye p. 4). Allie has a special part in Holden. Holden has these flashbacks of his happy kid brother, like he was around only yesterday. Holden describes Allie by saying, “he was two years younger than I was, but he was about fifty times as intelligent. He was terrifically intelligent. His teachers were always telling my mother what a pleasure it was having a boy like Allie in their class. And they weren’t just shooting the crap. They really meant it. But it wasn’t just that he was the most intelligent member in the family. He was also the nicest, in lots of ways. He never got mad at anybody(The Catcher in the Rye p.49-50).
Holden says that he is dumber than his siblings, that they were all better than him, better children in general.
Holden has three siblings. His brother Allie, his older brother D.B., and his younger sister Phoebe.
“You never saw a little girl (Phoebe) so pretty and smart in your whole life” (Pg. 67) Holden describes Phoebe that way saying she is intelligent but is still only ten years old.
“My brother D.B. is a writer and all.” (Pg. 67) Holden has not said an awful lot about D.B. but we do know he is in Hollywood.
“He (Allie) was two years younger than I was, but he was fifty times as intelligent.” (Pg. 38) Holden really seemed to look up to Allie despite the fact Allie was two years younger than him.
Holden compares himself to his siblings in a very negative way. He calls himself the unintelligent one in the family because of his academic failure and view over the world. D.B. is a writer in Hollywood, Phoebe is described as intelligent, and Allie is described as intelligent and athletic as well.
Holden's siblings are Allie, DB, and Phoebe.
Allie: "My brother Allie had this left-handed fielder's mitt. He was left-handed. The thing that was descriptive about it, though, was that he had poems written all over the fingers and the pocket and everywhere. In green ink. He wrote them on it so that he'd have something to read when he was in the field and nobody was up at bat. He's dead now"
DB "in Hollywood being a prostitute."
Phoebe "But you ought to see old Phoebe. She has this sort of red hair, a little bit like Allie's was, that's very short in the summertime. In the summertime, she sticks it behind her ears. She has nice, pretty little ears. In the wintertime, it's pretty long, though. Sometimes my mother braids it and sometimes she doesn't. It's really nice, though. She's only ten. She's quite skinny, like me, but nice skinny."
Holden thinks of himself in a bad light when compared to what he thinks of his siblings. He often thinks about how smart and perceptive they were. He thinks of himself as the "dumb one" in the family.
